Rack ribs? - 2006/04/21 02:03 I was wondering if any of you folks out there have done any ribs with a vertical rack? This allows for more ribs to be cooked in a much smaller area. Do you know if the results are the same as when cooked regularly? We are having a big Thanksgiving party and I am going to need more then I normally would. This is why I wanted try this method out. If anyone has done this before I would really appreciate any input.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/21 02:25 I have never tried this before but I have heard from friends that the racks do not support the ribs at the ends. They told me the ribs just go all over the place. There is one from Gator Pit that costs about $75 dollars which holds about 6 racks. You may want to check that out.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/21 23:21 That is correct. I tried a couple of these things and got the same problem as you heard about. What I can suggest is that you put the smaller ribs on the end and trim them up nicely. This works well. I also usually put the thick side on the racks.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/22 07:04 definitely trim the ones on the ends. Another problem with this method is when it comes time to use a mop. It falls off easily and becomes a real hassle.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/22 18:34 I got one of these from William and Sonoma and I find that I can only fit about 4 untrimmed spares on it. It is not the most ideal way to cook ribs but if you have company then they do work well. Last weekend we used two of them to cook 9 racks. Sauce is a problem so you may want to just serve the sauce as a side and let each person put it on as they see fit.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/23 03:50 I put two racks across the top of 3 other racks. This way when I use the sauce on the top racks it drips onto the racks below which prevents wasting your good sauce.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/24 17:19 After I marinate over night then I use a rub with garlic powder, Worchester, onion powder and salt. Sometimes I will add mustard as well.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/25 04:22 I was just at home depot and saw some rib racks on sale for around $7 I think. You can use more then 1 rack and I would recommend it as well.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/25 12:00 You can make your own racks if you have some old oven racks lying around. Mine came out better then the ones you see in stores. No flopping around on my babies but they are not as nice to look at as ones you will at Home Depot for example.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/26 04:20 What a great idea. I do have some lying around and was going to throw them out. Now I know exactly what to use them for. Thanks.

re:Rack ribs? - 2006/04/26 05:54 I saw some nice racks that will hold 8 pieces for $30 on the net. Shipping was included. Not bad I think!
