Spices
I am looking to get myself something nice to crush up and blend spices together for using when I am at the BBQ. Basically I am going to ask my beautiful wife to get me one for Christmas this year so I really need to know the exact one that I want. I would like to hear any recommendation you guys may have on this? Any models that are worth getting or ones that are a waste of money?

re:Spices
I think the answer to your question depends on one thing. Were you looking for something that you plan to use very often or something that will be very high tech that you can use for large quantity as a time? I use a Cuisinart that is really good. This is a full size model that works for big amounts. They also have a smaller version for more everyday use.

re:Spices
For this I use a standard coffee grinder. I think it does everything I need it to and then some. I think the only problem with using a coffee grinder is that it will not work with certain spices and herbs. Also it works only for small amounts so if you will be making large batches of rubs then I would recommend something more specific.

I also use a coffee grinder. They sell very cheap ones at Home Depot that work great. I think I paid around $15-20 dollars for mine. To clean it up after using it all you need to do is grind up some salt and all the left over spice particles will be gone.

re:Spices
This whole time I was thinking that I needed a certain tool for grinding up spices and it really never occurred to me that I Could use a coffee grinder for this. Now I can use what I already have and get something different for Xmas. We have an old coffee grinder in the cabinet that has almost never been used. Now I got my spice mill without even having to ask for it. You guys are great. Thanks for the advice.

re:Spices
A coffee grinder is great but the one thing it will not do it get all the spice particles to be the same size. This is something that a spice mill will do and a coffee grinder will not. If this is an issue for you, then give this a try: http://royalbusiness.com/product_info.php/products_id/137876/scs/1.

re:Spices
I use something called Mr Coffee Precision Coffee Grinder that works great. You can adjust the sizes of the grind and it also cleans up very nicely. The best part was that it only cost me about $20.

re:Spices
Damn that is nice. I checked it out on the internet and I think I am just going to buy it for myself since it is a lot less expensive then I thought. I really want to venture in to the world of making my own homemade rubs. The ones from the store are good but they are very limited sometimes. After I was doing BBQ for sometime I discovered that my taste became very developed and I was becoming less satisfied with what I was buying in the stores. Now I want to be able to cater the rubs to my own taste and for a specific type of meat.
