    Live Sushi All the Rage

Sushi is a feast for the eye and palate. But did you know that live sushi is becoming all the rage? See this web page for live sushi, exotic sushi, and related links:
Some people eat live shrimp and lobsters (the front half of the still-living lobster watches as the diner eats the freshly severed tail).
    Other examples are common.
Many wonder if the practice of live sushi eating is barbaric or delicious. What do you think?

Ikezukuri is more a "sashimi" thing than a "sushi" thing. Also I seriously doubt it has been around for 2000 years as mentioned in the article, as saltwater aerated holding tanks were not around then. Ikezukuri became popular in Japan during the late 1980s.

slaughtering them. That way the meat was always fresh and there was lots of room in the fridge. Of course the pig was still alive but the leg was dead after being severed.

opportunity. As for the barbarism, hey, those carrots are still alive when vegetarians eat them or slice and dice them for stir-fry, they`re just unable to twitch. ;P

twitch and I don`t think I could eat something that moved! It`s probably hypocritical and inconsistent but there it is! Mind you, if something on a plate tried to run away, I think most people would let it!
