Back in the USSR night
SO wanted to check out some backpacks at a store in Bellevue yesterday and asked me if there were any foodie places to check out over there. I opted for "From Russia with Love". It`s a tiny store, not much bigger than our family room, chockablock with Eastern European goodies. I got some frozen chicken pelmeni, a jar of tkemali (Georgian plum relish--"imported from Latvia"), some pomegranate juice, and a chunk of babka. Dinner was pretty easy. I heated some of the pelmeni in onion broth, and served it with a cucumber salad dressed with yogurt, mint, and chives, bread with tkemali, and babka for dessert.

Re:Back in the USSR night
for a symphony of sheer misery.....
I`ve never met a Russian yet that wasn`t a manic - depressive whack job...they are either just about ready to slash their wrists or are maniacally drunk on potato wodka.....
Nasty people and *nasty* victuals...HATE `em.....
And the IDIOT who initiated this thread: "USSR"...??? Might as well wish for "Dritte Reich Nacht".....

Re:Back in the USSR night
Well Greg - just like every other "people" there obviously are exceptions... and you apparently met the very few exceptions. All of the Russian and/or of Russian decent people that I have met have been quite the opposite. Very kind, generous, warm, loving and extremely intelligent.
Me thinks you either don`t get out... or maybe should *not* go out anymore. LOL ] Cyndi
